Catawba sweeps DSC Player of the Week awards
Wingate, N.C.----The Catawba College Indians swept the Deep South Conference Player of the Week awards, league officials announced Monday. Sophomore attack Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario) is the Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore goalie Michael Pecchia (Coquitlam, B.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Tom Cullop (New Windsor, Md.) earns Freshman of the Week honors.
Artem accounted for eight points and was part of over half of Catawba’s goals in the 14-7 win over Rollins. He scored five times and assisted on three others in the DSC victory. Three of his goals came in a seven-goal spurt that saw the Indians build a 4-3 lead early in the second quarter to an 11-3 advantage with just a minute to go in the third quarter. Artem also picked up a pair of ground balls on the afternoon. Artem has 20 goals and six assists on the season.
Pecchia allowed only five goals in 57.5 minutes in the victory over Rollins. He collected 15 saves and had a .750 save percentage, while also collecting five ground balls. Pecchia has a 12.25 goal against average and a .548 save percentage on the year.
Cullop had two goals and two assists in the Rollins victory, while also collecting four ground balls. The freshman scored his first goal midway through the first quarter to tie the game at two. His second goal was one of two the Indians had in a 27 second span after the Tars had pulled within 4-3 to give Catawba a 6-3 lead. He assisted on a pair of third-quarter goals to help Catawba extend its lead to 11-3. On the season, Cullop has scored nine goals and collected eight assists.

Saint Leo sweep DSC Player of the Week awards
Wingate, N.C.----The ninth-ranked Saint Leo University Lions swept the Player of the Week awards this week, league officials announced Monday. Junior attack Kyle Marceau (Weymouth, Mass.) is the Offensive Player of the Week. Junior midfielder Mike DelBuono (Southington, Conn.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while George Proechel (Orlando, Fla.) earns Freshman of the Week honors.
Marceau had three goals and an assist in the 9-7 conference victory over #8 Mars Hill. He racked up 13 shots on the afternoon while also collecting four ground balls as the Lions remained undefeated in Deep South Conference action.
DelBuono helped anchor the Saint Leo defense that held the eight-ranked Mars Hill offense to seven goals. He went 14-for-17 on face-offs on the afternoon, while also collecting five ground balls.
Proechel had two goals and an assist in the victory over Mars Hill. He took five shots on the day, all of which were on goal. Proechel also collected three ground balls as the Lions improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the DSC.

Saint Leo sweeps DSC Player of the Week awards
Wingate, N.C.----The Saint Leo University Lions swept the Deep South Conference Player of the Week awards, league officials announced Monday. Senior attack Luke Baruch (Golden, Colo.) is the Offensive Player of the Week. Junior goalie David Erdman (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while George Proechel (Orlando, Fla.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
Baruch had eight goals and an assist in Saint Leo’s two victories during the week. He had three goals and an assist in the 12-5 win over Notre Dame De Namur. Baruch netted five goals in the 12-11 win over fourth-ranked Merrimack. He scored his eight goals on 17 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Baruch added nine ground balls on the week.
Erdman racked up 27 saves in the two victories, including 19 in the win over Merrimack. He collected eight saves while allowing only five goals against Notre Dame De Namur. Erdman’s effort against number four Merrimack included a point-blank stuff of an MC player who snuck behind the SLU defense, caught the ball in stride, and headed, uncontested, towards the goal. The save preserved the Saint Leo victory Friday afternoon.
Proechel had three goals and four assists in Saint Leo’s big week. He started his week with two goals, three assists and three ground balls in the seven-goal victory over Notre Dame De Namur. Proechel added a goal, an assist and three ground balls in the Merrimack win.

Rollins and Mars Hill claim DSC Player of the Week awards
Wingate, N.C.----Mars Hill College senior attack Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is this week’s Deep South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Rollins sophomore defender Andrew Vossler (Manlius, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Rollins attack Justin Wright (Manhattan, N.Y.) is the Freshman of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Farmer led MHC to a 15-7 win over Catawba in the Lions’ DSC Opener. Farmer tallied four goals, three assists, three ground balls and was part of and extra man unit that was 3-4 against Catawba. Farmer helped the seventh-ranked Lions improve to 3-1 on the season.
Vossler played a vital role in helping the Tars win back-to-back contests, including their first victory over a conference opponent. He collected 12 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers, including two interceptions and five stick checks. Vossler was an integral part of a man-down defensive unit that allowed only six goals on 22 opportunities on the week.
Wright racked up four goals and five assists in three games. The Manhattan, N.Y. native totaled five ground balls on the week, including three against Pfeiffer University. He tacked on a caused turnover with a stick check in the same contest. Wright had a career day against St. Andrews, scoring four goals and adding an assist to lead the Tars with five points on the afternoon.

Saint Leo and Mars Hill take weekly POTW laurels Monday
Wingate, N.C.----Saint Leo University won two of the three weekly Deep South Conference Awards in the third week of voting, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Mars Hill College took the other honor.
Saint Leo senior midfielder Kyle Marceau (Concord, N.H.) is this week’s Offensive Player of the Week. SLU junior goalkeeper David Erdman (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Mars Hill freshman defense Ryan Herrmann (Columbus, Ohio) was selected Freshman of the Week.
Marceau collected nine goals and three assists as the Lions completed a North Carolina swing with two DSC victories and one narrow non-league defeat. A first team All-DSC performer in 2009, Marceau had five goals and one assist in a 16-5 victory at Catawba Sunday.
In addition, the Concord (N.H.) High School product had three goals and one helper in a heartbreaking 10-9 double-overtime loss at Queens University of Charlotte Friday. Marceau contributed one goal and one assist in a 10-3 triumph at Wingate University Wednesday. Marceau leads Saint Leo (3-1 overall) with 10 goals and five assists on the season.
Erdman picked up two wins last week. The 2007 DSC Freshman of the Year recorded four saves and allowed three Wingate goals in the victory over the Bulldogs. Erdman had eight ground balls in the Wingate contest.
The 2009 All-DSC first team member had 14 saves against the Queens Royals, surrendering 10 goals. In the Catawba encounter, he posted seven saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes of action. Erdman has 34 saves and 21 goals allowed in four games this season.
Herrmann held Le Moyne (N.Y.) College junior preseason All-American attack man Jack Venditti pointless (no goals, no assists) in the Lions’ 7-6 loss to the number two Dolphins Sunday. Herrmann has helped the Mars Hill Lions to victories over Birmingham Southern and St. Andrews Presbyterian in the season’s early stages.

Saint Leo and Catawba earn Deep South POTW Awards
Wingate, N.C.----Saint Leo University won two of the three weekly Deep South Conference Awards in the second week of voting, league officials announced Monday. Catawba College took the other nod.
Saint Leo senior attack Joe Guerin (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) is this week’s Offensive Player of the Week. Catawba sophomore goalkeeper Michael Pecchia (Coquitlam, B.C., Canada) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while SLU freshman midfielder Ty Trombley (Penn Yann, N.Y.) was selected Freshman of the Week.
Guerin racked up five goals and an assist for six points overall as the Lions defeated Rollins (Fla.) College 14-5 Saturday. Last year, Guerin had 27 goals and 15 assists for Saint Leo. He was named to the DSC All-Tournament team.
Pecchia had a huge game against number one C.W. Post, recording 18 saves and a .667 save percentage. Post edged Catawba 9-5. Pecchia had 11 saves and a .630 save percentage in a 16-8 regional victory over Pfeiffer University.
Trombley made good on 10-of-13 face-off attempts in the Rollins victory. He was playing in place of the Lions’ standard face-off person. Trombley added three ground balls against the RC Tars.

Mars Hill sweeps DSC Player of the Week awards
Wingate, N.C.----Three Mars Hill College Lions earned Deep South Conference Player of the Week awards, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Junior attack Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) is the Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore defender Chris Cudmore (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) is the Defensive Player of the Week, while attack Kyle Garrett (Nashville, Tenn.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Farmer was huge in Mars Hill’s 15-4 season-opening win over Birmingham Southern. He had four goals and five assists for the Lions on Sunday afternoon. His four goals came on six shots, four of which were on goal. Farmer also collected four ground balls on the afternoon.
Cudmore earns his honor for anchoring the Mars Hill defense that held Birmingham Southern to only four goals. He had two caused turnovers, two ground balls and a goal on the afternoon. Cudmore also anchored the man-down unit that killed all seven of extra-man opportunities.
Garrett kicked off his collegiate career at Mars Hill by scoring a goal in his debut. He took two shots on the day, with his lone shot on goal finding the back of the net.
